Every Saturday I bartend at Carmine's, which is located in Chinatown. I will have to blog about Carmine's later. The concept is family style Southern Italian food served in massive portions that are meant to share. It's hard to describe how big the portions are because it is so ridiculous. Anyway, to get there, I take the Metro from Virginia to Metro Center, and walk to Chinatown. This past Saturday, I was so happy to see that the downtown famers market was open for the season! Since I was about to start a 12 hour shift, I couldn't buy any fresh fruit, vegetables, or flowers (sad). So, instead I bought some blackberry jam! I don't eat a lot of jelly or jam because it is so high in sugar, but I was so exicted about the farmer's market, I bought it anyway.
I have been running every day this week. The weather is starting to warm up during the day, but usually by the time I get home from work, it is already dark and chilly. Last night was particularly windy and made 6 miles seem much longer. When I got home I didn't feel like cooking a big meal so I opted for a peanut butter (all natural) and blackberry jam sandwich and some grapes. I don't even remember the last time I had a PB&J sandwich, but it was pretty tasty!
I am excited for Spring when all of the Farmers Markets will be up and running. The Arlington Farmers Market, which is pretty close to my apartment, is actually open year round. I have never visited in the Winter, but the selection is great in the Fall and Spring.
